She, My World

mim-19.jpgthis beautiful woman
my world
loves me
I am lucky
can words
describe emotions
lancing my heart
weakening/strengthening my resolve
to be a better man

Earth
cool, earthen forest
bird-song and tittering leaves
in waves comes, worry
weight of responsibility’s burden
sink to the earth, weary
her hand lifts my heart
her wide smile brings the sun
gives me strength to
keep on

water-rocks-001

Water
intimacy, adoration, togetherness
has a strength, a flow
through demanding moments
past life’s stony ramparts
time and again, returning
to the peace of our love

mountains

Air
breath of the world
brings us life, fills
our lungs, gives voice
to the silence
to what’s inside
our truth residing
in our hearts

sun-01

Fire
passion, zeal, spirit, all fuel
infatuation, amore, devotion
bases of human interconnectedness
keeping our lives luminous
in our self-imposed caves
that spark, moment, she
stepped into my heart
gave flame to a candle
I thought extinguished
shepherding a kind light
in my dismal mind
I am grateful for
her hand, her love
her voice, her smile
how the fire now
warms my heart

It’s About Love

if you love

you cannot hate
if you love
you cannot deny your humanity
nor the humanity of others
if you love
you cannot ignore those in need
if you love
you will be open to the plight of
our mother, Earth, in her time of need
if you love
comes it does, two-fold, so we, together

may grasp one another’s hands, in unity

remember, strolling ancient streets
remember, the first moment, seeing
the tower, what a joyous moment to
be in the city of lights only a few days
after our ‘I do’s’, we did, we loved
each turn of the corner, each café
each historied doorway, filled with
wonder we soaked it in, kisses on
the Champs-Elysees, aside the
Seine, the heights of Sacre-Coeur
again, encore, we must go
again

Love vs grief vs joy vs bliss

Love vs grief vs joy vs bliss as I sit here dredging my soul for words
comes the upwell from my heart to salt my cheeks
all in mining sediment for sentiments conveying my truth
expressing profound love of my wife, her forever changing my life
joy of treading streets Paris, Rome, Venice or beaches of Maui
bliss of our wedding to the everyday kiss and touch, the flame of passion
then comes ache, sorrow, shock in the loss of parents, friends, an old school-mate
loss comes to us all, we must face it, or a brutal volcano we’ll become
to delve into a fictional character’s live, seeking his/her truth is to
find my own being within the crushing humanity we must endure

The World With Me

mimi-paris-2008-01

April in 2006
my study in isolation
a café choked with people
felt anxious, edgy, in wonder of
who’ll walk in the door
say “hi” to me

gust of sweet, rousing air
off English Bay as
soared in a raven beauty
our eyes locked,
a dazzling smile
you came over

take my hand, she said
travel the world with me
find the wonders out there
walk the coble and sand
feel the sights only
those in love can see

in nearly 10 years
since that sweetest moment
that blessed day
true to form
we’ve walked Paris
wondered streets of Rome

since the day I said,
“here, hold my heart close”
through trial, change, loss and grief
in your arms I’ve found
home, wherever we are
in protection, comfort, joy

To Be Paris

paris-2008-04 (1)
oh to live here, enveloped by
art, history, seeking
each corner, unearthing
why the greats found her light
roused the creative spirit, why
nations desired her jewel
in their conquering crown, why
lovers, in first blush, to honeymooning, to
the eternal abiding, all with new eyes
desire her indelible blessing
as she is eternal, so their love
may be as well
