tides find solace in assured
rhythms, tied to sister moon’s
phases, yoked to Earth’s flight
faithful to Sol’s lineage

comes seasons, enlivening
waking dormant seed, fevered
rest, color eruption
plummeting wintertide

wailing echo, comes a being
cast in culture, kindred, own
potential to build on, take
on time, Earth, society

allotted moments, segments
denoting measure, plodding
hurdling forward, in
viewpoint lies perspective

shivering, wet winter’s
rippling, sharp gale
sheep graze, as I gaze
watching, wondering
imagining life, here
place of reclamation, of
old masters, new impressionists
quiet life, here, wide fields lined
traced, in water

as a prairie child, westerly horizons,
only on quiet, clear moments
held faint, snow capped sentinels
lighting my imagination
dreams came, of monsters
thick forests, isolation, telling
conforming to my own
sequester

worn, aged, batter, weathered
graying temples, lengthening shadows
season’s stubborn aches bears
apprehension in change’s progress
solid, though it seems
fluid, interim, provisional it lies
in wait for a fateful battle

my voice, where? found
a home? absconded? flown?
found distance local, sought
dissimilar places of expression
indistinct, invisible ramparts
keep bay, my voice

She, My World

this beautiful woman
my world
loves me
I am lucky
can words
describe emotions
lancing my heart
weakening/strengthening my resolve
to be a better man

Earth
cool, earthen forest
bird-song and tittering leaves
in waves comes, worry
weight of responsibility’s burden
sink to the earth, weary
her hand lifts my heart
her wide smile brings the sun
gives me strength to
keep on

Water
intimacy, adoration, togetherness
has a strength, a flow
through demanding moments
past life’s stony ramparts
time and again, returning
to the peace of our love

Air
breath of the world
brings us life, fills
our lungs, gives voice
to the silence
to what’s inside
our truth residing
in our hearts

Fire
passion, zeal, spirit, all fuel
infatuation, amore, devotion
bases of human interconnectedness
keeping our lives luminous
in our self-imposed caves
that spark, moment, she
stepped into my heart
gave flame to a candle
I thought extinguished
shepherding a kind light
in my dismal mind
I am grateful for
her hand, her love
her voice, her smile
how the fire now
warms my heart

hardened, the ground, here
perhaps, the spade, dull
can’t mine, unearth
truths, illuminating
hurt, ache, worry, till
releasing anxiety
a soothing liberation
finds a deep longing
of a vague, fleeting, peace
